Best Platforms for Finding Freelance Film Crew and Talent in the UK

If you're working in film or TV and looking for the best platforms for finding freelance film crew and talent in the UK, you're in the right place. From independent shorts to full-scale productions, having the right crew can make all the difference — and today’s digital platforms make sourcing talent easier than ever. Below, we break down the most trusted tools available — starting with FILMD, the platform we make.

FILMD – UK Cast and Crew by Location, Role and Availability

FILMD is a professional network and production platform for UK film and TV, with cast and crew in every department. It’s not just about finding crew: you can post the jobs and run the production there too. Here’s what it does:

• Find cast, crew and equipment by location with the custom Members Map
• Run your production with your team, discussions, documents, scripts and calendar in one workspace (part of FILMD Plus)
• Post jobs free and manage the applications on the jobs board
• Collaborate on the go with mobile apps for iOS and Android
• FILMD Accreditation, so you can see whose experience has been reviewed

Whether you’re a director, producer, cinematographer, or sound designer — FILMD helps you connect, create, and collaborate effortlessly.

Whether you’re crewing your first short film or a feature, FILMD keeps the search, the hiring and the production in one place. It’s UK-based, and FILMD Plus members can enter FILMD Grants: £1,000 for a short film of up to 10 minutes.

Mandy Network

Best for: Casting talent for commercials, short films, and theatre.

The Mandy Network has long been a staple for finding actors, crew, and creative collaborators. With a focus on casting calls and crew gigs, it’s particularly strong in the commercial and performance sectors.

Shooting People

Best for: Indie filmmakers seeking collaboration and community.

Shooting People offers a vibrant network of indie filmmakers and creatives, with daily bulletins, forums, and job boards. It's ideal for finding crew for micro-budget or passion projects, especially in London.

Film and TV Pro (now part of Mandy)

Best for: Crew members seeking consistent freelance gigs.

Previously its own brand, Film and TV Pro is now integrated with Mandy, but still offers solid listings for behind-the-camera roles across the UK. A paid membership unlocks full job access.

StarNow

Best for: Casting emerging talent, especially for student and low-budget projects.

While StarNow is geared more toward performers than crew, it’s a helpful tool for casting leads, extras, or presenters — especially for student films and indie content.

Conclusion

The UK’s film and TV industry is buzzing with talent, and each of these tools has its strengths. FILMD combines crew discovery, production management and professional development in one platform, built for UK film and TV.
